Privacy notice

Effective September 10, 2026. Launch notice. TrailerBounty helps carriers list missing equipment and receive private sighting reports. This notice describes the current service. We will update it when our practices change and identify the new effective date.

What we collect and why

  • Accounts and carrier details: registration and contact information you supply, used to provide access, review carrier onboarding, administer listings, and address misuse.
  • Equipment listings: unit identifiers, descriptions, approximate last-known location, carrier contact route, offered reward terms, and photographs supplied by an authorized carrier. Approved listing information is public; use business contact details intended for that purpose.
  • Sighting reports: your description, photographs, optional location coordinates and report contact details, used to route a lead to the responsible carrier. Your browser asks before providing its location. You may enter a location manually. Share only information needed for a report, and avoid photographs of bystanders, private documents or unrelated property.
  • Support and rights requests: your email and message, used to review, verify and respond to your request.
  • Outreach records: business and association contact information from the operator’s source spreadsheet or later documented sources, used to organize potential business outreach. Inclusion is not proof of subscription consent.
  • Technical information: necessary login/security storage and the privacy choice you save. Hosting services may process network addresses and server logs for operation and security. Optional analytics and advertising are off unless you opt in and the service has enabled those integrations.

Who can see a sighting

Sighting photos, exact coordinates, report text and contact details are private to the reporting account, the responsible carrier and site administrators. They are not a public sightings feed. The reporting form requires your express agreement before sharing your report contact details with the carrier. Carriers and finders communicate and arrange any reward directly. A carrier’s subsequent handling of information is also its responsibility; consider what you share when communicating outside this service.

Uploaded images are reencoded to remove embedded metadata. A public equipment photograph needs separate authorization and an approved listing. GPS coordinates entered into a report are still sensitive information even when photo metadata is removed.

Disclosures and optional measurement

Hosting and other service providers process information needed to operate the service. We may disclose information to comply with applicable legal process or to protect the service and people from harm. Approved equipment listings are public by design. We do not offer sighting locations, reporter contact details or private photographs for advertising.

If enabled, optional Google Analytics measures visits to a limited set of public information pages after analytics consent. Optional Meta measurement can send public-page activity and browser identifiers to Meta after advertising consent; this may be considered sharing under California law. Neither integration is used on account, search, equipment-detail, report, GPS, contact or privacy-request workflows by this module. See the cookie notice for controls.

Your choices

You can decline optional storage, change your choices, or withdraw consent at any time below. A supported Global Privacy Control signal blocks optional advertising/sharing. We do not use a legacy Do Not Track signal as a separate instruction; optional tracking remains subject to your explicit choices and GPC. We do not knowingly sell or share children’s information; this service is intended for adults.

You can request access, correction, deletion, an opt-out, a limit on sensitive information use, or help with a concern using our form. We may need proportionate verification before disclosing or changing records and may retain information where applicable law permits or requires it. We do not penalize you for exercising privacy rights. California-specific information appears in our California privacy notice.

Retention and deletion

Sighting reports and their private photos are retained for the configured sighting period, initially 90 days, then removed through scheduled cleanup. A site administrator may configure that period from 30 to 365 days. Account, equipment-listing and outreach records remain until reviewed and removed when no longer needed; the sighting timer does not erase those records. You can request deletion through the form. Operational audit metadata is retained for 180 days and does not include report payloads. Logo-vote records are retained for 30 days. Open privacy requests remain pending administrator handling; closed requests are retained for 24 months, then deleted through scheduled cleanup. Backup and infrastructure retention follow the hosting arrangements and may outlast removal from the active application.

We use access controls and limited data collection to reduce risk. No service can guarantee absolute security. Do not upload unnecessary sensitive information. Contact us if you believe information was disclosed or used improperly.
